Importance of literacy in India

Education is one of the key features required to independently sustain in this society. Like food, water and sun; education is also a must for everyone. But how much importance do we give to it?
The literacy rate of a country defines its prosperity. It is directly proportional to the country's socio-economic development. Literacy rate of India is 74.04% currently. There is a wide difference between the literacy rate of men and women. According to 2011 census(official), the literacy rate of men is 82.14% while for women it is 65.45% this had a huge impact on India’s development. However, nowadays researchers are happy to hear that this gap is reducing.
Education is equal and important for everyone. Classroom is generally a place where multi-cultured people are allowed to study together without discrimination and differences. Various government policies has brought considerable hike in India’s literacy from then. Some examples of those are:-
Till 1994, Bihar was the only Indian state with the lowest literacy rate of 37% while Kerala has had the highest with 93% Bihar has made a drastic change by improving its literacy rate to 73%Children from "lower castes" were frequently denied school attendance and harassed when they attended. Various government programs has helped boost Bihar’s literacy rate. Another instance where the government has helped the citizens in terms of education was in Tamilnadu in 1982 during the ruling of the famous political leader, M.G.Ramachandran. He felt that kids couldn't come to school because of their family's weak financial status. Due to this, they felt that money was important for their survival and forced children into child labour. So, he decided to provide mid-day meal along with cheaper education. This motivated a lot of parents.

Nowadays parents are understanding the importance of education and sending their children to school without any hesitation. Hope that our country will soon have the highest literacy rate in the world.

Note: I'm excited about publishing this article on 8th September, which is "World literacy day" and coincidentally, it's my birthday too.
