Need for Entrepreneurship education at school level in India
India is one of the fastest
growing economy marching towards development and safer infrastructure. Our
honorable ex-President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s desire was to introduce entrepreneurship
learning in the Indian education syllabus at the school level. As you aware, very
great inventions like the “zero”, Yoga and “many great medicinal products” were
invented by Indians but shockingly, Indian entrepreneurs are only 3% of the
world entrepreneurs.
Wikipedia defines Entrepreneurship
as “the process of designing, launching and running a new business, which typically begins as a small
business, such as a startup
company, offering a product, process or service for sale or hire.
The people who create these businesses are called entrepreneurs.
While most of the population of graduates
are searching for jobs, why don’t they try to keep up their own business?
Entrepreneurs create job for themselves as well as create job for others. There
is a report says “Over 80% of college graduates are entrepreneurs in Spain”
Entrepreneurship education is
expected develop attributes and skills required to become a successful entrepreneur
starting from School. When these qualities inculcated from a very young age,
they can create long lasting good effects on the learner. This learning will harness our knowledge on help
business idea generation, productization, sales and marketing and overcome
failure. Entrepreneurship education also has many benefits with regard to the
country as a whole. It creates job opportunities to many people in urban and
rural areas, demolishes poverty and provides a good scope of employment. It
also aids in community development.
You might have a question. Although
India being the second largest population in the world and encourages a wide
range of professions, why can’t it create better entrepreneurs? In spite of
Indians being the CEO’s of many companies, why cannot they be good
entrepreneurs? The reason could be, Indians are not having the right foundation
and infrastructure to become entrepreneur. In my opinion, an increase in the
number of entrepreneurs in India will eventually increase the standard of
living, wealth creation and sharing.
Thailand being one of the
smallest countries, has had a contribution of 20% of the total entrepreneurs
worldwide. According to the 2014 global report concluded by the Global
Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), Uganda is the largest entrepreneurial countries
in the world. And it is very surprising that India is not even included in the
list.
In order to become part of
developed countries list, eradicate poverty and improve the GDP (Gross domestic
product) per capita, India need to create more entrepreneurs at various
sectors, for that it is important to introduce Entrepreneurship education at schools,
create awareness and make use of the potential available among the students.
