An educational trip to Purani Haveli

Education is not something which only happens between the four walls of the classroom . It can be more than that too. Learning is not only memorising the content and pouring it in the paper. One of the learning technique is “seeing is believing”. Few things can be learnt and understood better if we see them with our own eyes.

Recently, we have been to an educational trip to Purani Haveli which is located in Secunderabad. This trip was part of our history lessons.

Purani Haveli literally means old mansion. So, this mansion was built by the Asif jah II to his son Sikander jah (Asaf jah III). It was a palace earlier that time. But now, part of it has been converted into a school and the other part serves like a museum where the artifacts were placed. The palace was very magnificent and the museum was mind blowing. We saw various belongings of the last Nizam Osman Ali Khan and his family. There were various things like the Silver caskets, cup and saucers, jewellery, golden keys,

silver model of the Charminar and other important places in Secunderabad. Basically, all the things were made of gold and silver. We also saw the swords and golden handled walking sticks  used at that time. Few things recovered by the archeology department was also displayed like the wooden pots,

olden coins, ornaments of the royal family etc. The two most amazing things we saw there was the golden throne of the king and the largest wardrobe. The wardrobe is said to be the largest wardrobe in the world. It had displays of various clothing of the king and queen, the shoes, and

their turbans. The manually operated lift, different portraits of the king with his family, the stained glass painting added beauty to the museum. The architecture was no less, it added more charm to the palace.

With the help of our teachers and seniors, we could understand how the Nizams were influenced by the British as their dressing style was completely western, the ladies wore white gowns and the men wore royal suits. Their architecture also showed great western influence. The pillars resembled the Greek architecture while the slopping roof resembled the roof of the white house.
This is how our educational trip went with a lot of fun and learning.
I hope that I have given adequate information on the monument Purani Haveli.
